News About Mold. . . .
Molds
are decomposing microscopic organisms found almost everywhere, indoors and
outdoors. Most of the times, mold only appears on our food in the refrigerator
or some local television show. The fact is, indoor mold, can live in your home
under ideal conditions. Molds are part of the natural environment. Outdoors,
molds play a part in nature by breaking down dead organic matter such as fallen
leaves and dead trees, but indoors, mold growth should be avoided. EPA, No one
really knows how many species of mold exist because new molds are found almost
everyday. Estimates range from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands
different types of molds. Spore production is characteristic of molds in general
to reproduce. A spore is a small reproductive body that is capable of growing
into a new organism, producing bacteria, fungi, and algae. Spores can stay
airborne indefinitely, drifting from one room to the next, landing on food,
clothing, appliances, table tops, carpeting and furniture, walls and woodwork.
Any wet, damp or humid surface becomes a breeding ground for mold colonies and
more spores.
Mold
can be found in the most common areas of your home. The spores can be brought
in on our clothing, pets, and furniture. If coupled with a humid environment
and mold growth conditions are ideal, then growth will continue over time.
Excess levels of mold and mold spores can
create problematic conditions for individuals. Lower levels may be present one
day, while permissible levels are found another day. Exposure limits usually
vary from person to person and also day to day.
Higher risk mold conditions are more easily
recognized by the sudden visual appearance or funky smell of "Hidden Mold". The
correct action is to call a professional immediately. Due not attempt to clean
the mold yourself. Attempts to self correct the problem could possibly lead to
spreading and increased health risks.
Health risks are associated with certain
types of mold and their mycotoxins. Black Mold, known as Stachybotrys atla,
grows on dead and decaying cellulose materials. This "Toxic Mold" will only
become a problem when it emits these mycotoxins capable of producing effect in
humans and animals.

Does My home Have Mold?
"50% of the homes in the United States
have Mold." WHO
The United States estimates that one in three houses has a current moisture
problem, and one in ten houses has a problem that is related to the health of
the occupants. Standard protocol as moisture intrudes our homes through a leaky
roof, a bursting pipe or a seeping basement, requires the area to be dried
completely within 48-72 hours, or mold growth will begin. During a home
investigation some inspectors do not write it up, and some pretend they do not
see it. If the owner acknowledges they have a mold problem, they are not aware
of the industry standards on mold removal. That means a home owner may
camouflage the mold and possibly make it worse by disturbing it or spreading it
into the air.
Can you see the mold in this home?
Currently no government regulations exist
for the detection or removal of mold. There is also no guarantee that a home
inspector will note the presence of mold when buying or selling your home.
"It's something that's being looked at at all levels of government." (Redington)
Among common problems are stinky collections of sewage back up hidden in crawl
spaces, indoor air quality health problems, and people who have no where to turn
when there is a mold problem.
Condos and Apartments may have water intrusion problems that are caused from
a neighbor, roof or sprinkler system. Condo associations usually have a tough
problem sourcing the origin of the problem.
When it comes to hiring a mold removal
company, home owners must be careful that it is done correctly. The EPA has
issued guidelines but no national mandates have been established.
The best way people can protect themselves
is to know that a third party mold consultants such as, Fun Guy Inspection &
